In chapter 2 of A Silent Voice , Mr Takeuchi brought up a fascinating maxim. This takes place after Ishida rudely mimicked Nishimiya's speaking voice, and was pulled into his office for the "teacher's lecture", to which he tells him:  "There are some things in this world that you just have to deal with". This in part subtly hinting at Nishimiya -- a girl with a hearing impairment -- being "that thing". The verb used is also notable; to "deal with something" implies some degree of tolerance. So what Mr Takeuchi is trying to reveal to Ishida is that there are people with disabilities in this world, and that as functioning members of society who have  "morality" , we have to tolerate them. But is this the ideal solution? Tolerance inherently suggests that both parties are involuntarily participating in this relationship. For the class, they were neither asked or given a choice, and hence they tolerate; for Nishimiya, she may desire...

  I think everyone is familiar with the term 'breaking the fourth wall'. In a theatrical play, we peep into the life of a character by seeing past the fourth wall, which is the wall that connects both the house, the character and the audience. However, a house should logically have four concrete walls. In a sense, even though the fourth wall is invisible for theatrical purposes, the characters still have to treat it as a concrete entity, ala exiting through a door. It is when the characters step forward and phase through the fourth wall does the audience's immersion break. It is by breaking its concreteness are the audience reminded that they are watching a bunch of actors acting on a stage. In anime and manga, this technique is mostly used for comedic purposes. Shows like 'Gintama' and manga like '100 girlfriends' utilizes these fourth wall breaks to subvert expectations and remind their audience not to take its content seriously. However, 'Goodbye Eri...

So recently there is this manga that is fucking great and that I look forward to reading every week cause I really, really, really, really, really love it. Here is some of the reasons why: I love every single one of the girls from the tops of their heads to the tips of their toenails and I love Kusuri-senpai’s energetic innocence and I love the way Shizuka-chan is like a cute little animal and I love Hakari’s modest grace and I love the way Hahari-san completely falls apart around cute things and I love how Mei-san is both sweet and overwhelmingly competent as a maid and I love the way Kurumi makes everything she eats look delicious and I love the way Karane is a tsundere and I love the way Kusuri-senpai gets so single-minded in her love of developing drugs and I love Nano’s beautifully glossy silver hair that flows behind her and I love the way Iku stoically sticks it out against all the odds and I love how Shizuka-chan’s timidity makes me want to protect her and I love the way Hakari...
